Kelowna is located within the traditional territory of the Syilx Okanagan Nation, who have relied on Okanagan Lake and the surrounding waters for millennia. Canoes have long moved along these waterways as part of important cultural routes connecting communities throughout the region, and the Syilx people continue to maintain a deep relationship with these lands and waters. Paddle BC is continuing to work with local tourism partners to share more detailed paddling information about this area. Our goal is to provide local paddling insights that help visitors experience the region’s waterways responsibly. As these partnerships grow, we look forward to expanding the information available and highlighting more paddling opportunities in and around Kelowna.
