The Welcome Mat to the Valhallas.
For paddlers, Slocan Lake is more than just a beautiful body of water. It’s a gateway to the wild landscapes of Valhalla Provincial Park. Surrounded by towering granite peaks, glacier-fed waterfalls, and forested shoreline, the lake offers calm morning paddles and dramatic mountain scenery at every turn.
The western shore is especially popular for overnight trips. Eight rustic beach campsites provide ideal stopping points for multi-day paddling adventures, where days are spent exploring hidden coves and quiet shoreline, and nights unfold under clear mountain skies. Whether you’re travelling by kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddleboard, the lake rewards every stroke with solitude, wildlife sightings, and unforgettable views. Slocan Lake also carries echoes of the region’s mining past. Paddle wheelers once crossed these deep waters, ferrying supplies to the silver boomtowns of Silverton and New Denver. Today the lake is known for its alpine beauty, quiet communities, and the enduring legend of “Walter,” a mythical lake creature said to lurk in its depths.
