An alpine turquoise masterpiece
Garibaldi Lake is one of the most iconic alpine lakes in BC. Accessible via a 9-kilometer hike, the lake is famous for its striking turquoise color from glacial rock flour. The lake is surrounded by spectacular peaks and unique volcanic formations.
The environment is truly alpine. Paddlers who carry their gear in are rewarded with a unique perspective on this basin. The water is extremely cold, and the weather can change rapidly. The views of the Sphinx Glacier from the water are unparalleled.
Geographically, Garibaldi Lake is a large, deep basin formed when volcanic eruptions dammed the valley. It is a fragile alpine environment. While the water is generally calm, the hike-in access makes this a destination for the physically fit and well-prepared.
