A high-energy channel through the islands

Discovery Passage is a narrow and powerful channel separating Vancouver Island from the Discovery Islands. Known for its incredible tidal currents which can reach 15 knots, it is a dynamic and challenging environment for experienced paddlers.

Paddling in Discovery Passage is an exhilarating experience that requires careful planning. You can explore the shorelines of Quadra Island and enjoy the mountain views. The area is famous for salmon fishing and abundant sea birds like bald eagles.

Geographically, Discovery Passage is a narrow funnel creating powerful tidal currents. Paddlers must be expert-level with a deep understanding of tide tables. While the currents are hazardous, they also create a vibrant marine ecosystem.
