A mountain sentinel in the Fraser Valley
Chilliwack Lake is a large body of water at the end of the Chilliwack River Valley. Surrounded by the steep peaks of the Cascade Mountains, it offers a scenic environment that is a favourite for local paddlers.
As the centerpiece of Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park, paddlers can explore the wide-open reaches or venture toward the quieter northern end. Wildlife here is abundant, with black bears and ospreys frequently seen along the shoreline.
Geographically, Chilliwack Lake is a deep glacial basin subject to sudden wind events. The wind can whip up large waves quickly and, because the water tends to be chilly year-round, it’s important paddlers wear proper safety gear and be prepared for changing mountain conditions.
