Glacier National Park's Beaver River is dam good.
Located about 50 kilometres west of Golden, the Beaver River offers a scenic mountain paddle that appeals to a wide range of river users. Flowing through a broad valley framed by forest and alpine peaks, the river combines gentle current with occasional bursts of lively water.
The upper section is best left to experts due to numerous sweepers and log jams that can make navigation difficult. Farther downstream, the middle section becomes much more approachable, offering mellow Class I current that’s well suited to canoeists, kayakers, and stand-up paddleboarders looking for a relaxed float. The lower section adds a bit more excitement, with a few short Class II features that keep things interesting without becoming overly technical. With clear mountain views, quiet forested shorelines, and fun moving water, the Beaver River delivers a rewarding run for intermediate paddlers and anyone looking to enjoy a beautiful day on the river.
