Don’t let the name fool you. This river is a no-nonsense good time.

Located about a 1.5-hour drive west of Fernie, the Bull River is a favourite of both local and visiting whitewater rafters and kayakers because it’s runnable from early Spring to late Fall. As the seasons change and the water levels lessen, the river transforms from a big water rapid run to a more tranquil destination brimming with boulder gardens, forested shorelines and lots of wildlife. The 117-kilometre-long river originates in the Rocky Mountains and travels through class II-III rapids in the upper section and then class III-IV whitewater in the lower section before connecting with the Kootenay River.
